Pub evening – Tuesday 16 May

The Hyde Park Estate Association will be holding its next pub evening on Tuesday 16 May.  The topic for the evening will be transport on the Hyde Park Estate.

Many of us who live and work in the Hyde Park Estate are aware of the
significant changes taking place to all forms of transport in the area.
We are fortunate to have long-standing local resident Mr John Walton,
Secretary of PRACT ( Paddington Residents Active Concern on Transport )
to take us through a summary of recent, planned & proposed transport
changes to: buses, trains; Paddington mainline & local TUBE stations,
Crossrail, Cycle Super-Highways & Quietways, local roads, streets &
pedestrian areas.

The purpose of this meeting is to inform members as to what is happening
now and in the future to enable your HPEA Committee to properly represent
your views and any concerns to our Westminster City Councillors, TFL & others.

Sally Martin, HPEA Transport Committee will Chair the meeting and a question and answer session at the end of John’s briefing.

We will meet as usual in the Upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on Strathearn Place from 6.30 – 8.30pm, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Consultation on Hyde Park Paddington Forum

Many HPEA members are already signed up to the proposed Hyde Park and Paddington Neighbourhood Forum. Westminster City council are now carrying out formal consultation on the establishment of the Forum and you are invited to take part. Here is the information from the Forum’s website, http://www.hydeparkpaddington.org:

“An application to designate the Hyde Park and Paddington Neighbourhood Forum was made to Westminster City Council on 22 December 2016. Following the application’s validation the City Council is inviting formal responses from businesses and residents. The role of the Hyde Park and Paddington Neighbourhood Forum will be to lead and undertake neighbourhood planning. This will give the community, both businesses and residents, a chance to influence development and change your neighbourhood.”

The consultation is open until 6pm 20 April 2017 and HPEA members are encouraged to give feedback which you can do as outlined below. The WCC website page is  http://www.westminster.gov.uk/neighbourhood-planning-resources#news

You can view or download the flyer about the consultation at this link.

If you would like to make any comments in relation to the proposed Hyde Park and Paddington Neighbourhood Forum, please send them to the postal/email address below by 18:00 hours on Thursday 20th April 2017.

Pub evening 17 January 2017

At our first pub evening of the New Year on  Tuesday 17 January we are delighted to have as our speaker a member of the Royal Parks policing team who works in our ‘local’  Hyde Park. PC Stephen Barnes will be giving us a short talk on ‘Policing in the Parks’ covering all those issues which are dear to our hearts – cycling, dogs, rough sleepers, etc – and of course any others which you may wish to raise with him.
As most of us make regular use of this wonderful amenity right on our doorstep, you will doubtless want to hear how the Parks Police look after it and keep it safe for our enjoyment.  So please come along armed with questions and as usual a lively discussion will follow.
We will meet in the upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on Strathearn Place from 6.30 – 8.30pm.  The talk will start at 7pm but do come early to have a drink and chat with friends.  Please feel free to invite any of your neighbours who may like to hear PC Barnes and who may be interested in joining our Association.

Christmas party Wednesday 14 December

Just a reminder that our annual Christmas Party is fast approaching and we hope that you will join us to celebrate the festive season.  This year as last, it is being held at 40 Connaught Street, courtesy of Chestertons from 6.30pm – 8.30 pm. We are very grateful to Chestertons for providing this splendid venue and if you were with us last year you will know that a very good time was had by all.  We expect this year to be even better!
The date is next Wednesday 14 December and full details are on the leaflet below.  Please contact Sandra Brendlor as soon as possible to reserve your tickets:  sandra@brendlor.com or 020 7402 6099.

Pub evening Tuesday 18 October

At our next pub evening on Tuesday 18 October we are pleased to welcome Simon Gartshore and representatives of British Land who will talk to us about their emerging vision for the future of the Paddington Central Estate, the area behind Paddington Station and around Sheldon Square.  They will be giving us a review of what has been achieved in this area in recent years and will discuss their ideas for the future of the Estate and the opportunities for further development.  As their plans are only in the formative stages they would welcome our views and hope to be able to discuss with us the ideas that they are considering.  This is an excellent opportunity for us to have an early stage input on the local developments in our area and I hope that as many of you as possible will attend.
We will meet as usual in Upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on Strathearn Place between 6.30 – 8.30pm.  We envisage that the talk will start at 7pm but do come along early for a drink and a chat with other members.  Please feel free to invite any of your neighbours who may be interested in hearing about this and in joining our association.

Horseman’s Sunday at St John’s Hyde Park

Our friends at St John’s have asked us to publicise this very popular event as follows:
49th Horseman’s Sunday
18th September 2016 (10am to 2pm)
St John’s Hyde Park

Running since 1967 in the Hyde Park Estate, the horses of our local stables will once again gather for their annual blessing outside St John’s, Hyde Park. This festive occasion gathers the horses that use Hyde Park, including horseguards, the police and carriages. Once assembled in front of the church, the vicar appears on horseback fully robed for a traditional blessing. Surrounding all the horsing around is a traditional village fete including refreshments, jazz music, cake stall and many children’s activities. A great day for the whole family it is not to be missed. A festival eucharist starts at 10am including Bach’s Jesu joy of man’s desiring, with outdoor fete, service and cavalcade following. It’s all packed up by 2 o’clock, so don’t be late.

Launch of the Hyde Park Paddington Neighbourhood Forum Wednesday 22 June

All HPEA members are invited to a special meeting to launch the Hyde Park and Paddington Neighbourhood Forum.  It will be held at the Victory Services Club on  Wednesday 22 June at 6.30pm.

We will be looking at the special arrangements needed to gain agreement and understand the constitutional and key organisational issues.  Our Chairman Nick Johnson will be introducing our business partners and asking for your views and agreement to the application we need to make to the Council.  We hope you can come to this important meeting.

Please see the Hyde Park Paddington forum website for more information http://www.hydeparkpaddington.org/

Pub evening 21 June

At our next pub evening on Tuesday 21 June the Hyde Park Estate Association is very pleased to be given the opportunity once again to meet members of the team behind the proposed development adjacent to Paddington Station and to give them our views.  As you may be aware, following the response to their original proposals earlier this year Sellar Paddington Limited withdrew their planning application and are now planning to present revised proposals for the site.
They will be holding a public consultation and exhibition later this month (24th, 25th and 27th June) but prior to this have agreed to come along to the HPEA pub evening to seek our views.  This will be your chance to ask any questions and to find out what they have done to answer the concerns previously raised following the earlier application.   It is a great opportunity to meet the key people involved with the site and the development of Paddington and to make your views clear.
We hope that you will be able to join us and to take an active part in the planning process.  We will meet as usual in the Upstairs Theatre Bar of the Victoria Pub on Strathearn Place from 6.30 – 8.30pm.
